Payment & security

Your card number never reaches us.

Checkout is hosted by Shopify, not by this shop. Here is what that means, what we can see, what we cannot, and what to do when a payment is refused.

At the checkout

Four things we can promise about paying.

  • Payment stays with Shopify

A checkout certified to PCI DSS Level 1. The card number never touches our servers.

  • 3-D Secure when your bank asks

Strong customer authentication across the UK and the EU. We never see the code.

  • Refunds go back the same way

To the card or wallet you paid with, within five working days of approval.

  • No surprises at the door

UK and EU orders are sent duties paid, with tax shown before you confirm.

Accepted at checkout

What you can pay with.

This is what our checkout is able to take. What you actually see depends on your country, your device and your browser — only the methods enabled for your order appear on the page.

What you can pay with.
Method How it works Where it appears
Visa, Mastercard, American Express Typed into Shopify's card fields and turned into a token before anything returns to us Card fields
Shop Pay Shopify remembers your details and confirms with a one-time code sent to your phone Wallet button
Apple Pay Apple devices and Safari, confirmed with Face ID or Touch ID Wallet button
Google Pay Chrome and Android, confirmed on the device itself Wallet button
PayPal Sends you to PayPal to approve the payment, then straight back to the order Redirect
SneakPen gift cards Enter the code and it comes off the total; anything left over stays on the card Discount field
Anything not on this list We cannot take bank transfers, cheques or cash on delivery Not accepted

Card payments are processed by [Payment provider] through Shopify's checkout. Availability varies: wallets show up only on the devices and browsers that support them, and some methods are not offered outside [Country]. The icons on a product page show what the shop can take, not a guarantee of what your particular checkout will offer. Nothing is charged until you confirm, and the total on the final screen is the total that leaves your account.

Paying, in short

The questions that reach us most.

If a charge does not look right, write with the order number and the last four digits of the card. Never the full number.

Ask us anything
Is it safe to type my card details here?

You are not typing them here. The checkout belongs to Shopify, is certified to PCI DSS Level 1, and the number is turned into a token before anything comes back to this shop. All we ever see is the card brand, the last four digits and whether your bank said yes.

There is a charge for an order I never completed.

That is a pending authorisation — money reserved by your bank but never taken. It looks like a payment in a banking app and disappears on its own, usually within a few working days and occasionally up to thirty.

If you have no confirmation email, there is no order and nothing has been charged. Should it still be sitting there after ten working days, send us the date and the amount and we will confirm from our side.

My card was declined, but there is money in the account.

Nine times out of ten the billing address does not match the one your bank holds — the postcode especially. After that: an unfinished 3-D Secure check, a card that blocks online or international payments, or your bank's own fraud filter reacting to a name it has not seen before.

Check the address, try once more, then try a wallet. If it still fails, ring the number on the back of your card — banks often need to hear from you before they will let it through.

Why does my statement show a different amount?

Currency conversion. If your card is issued in a currency other than the one you paid in, your bank converts at their own rate on the day and may add a foreign transaction fee. Neither is visible to us, and neither is ours to set.

Refunds come back in the currency you paid in, so a rate that has moved in between can land a slightly different sum in your account. We always return the full amount we received.

Can I pay with PayPal, Apple Pay or Shop Pay?

Usually, yes — but only the methods enabled for your order appear at checkout, and that depends on your country, your device and your browser. Apple Pay wants an Apple device and Safari; Google Pay wants Chrome or Android.

Whatever shows on your checkout is what we can take for that order. We would rather say that than promise a logo you may never see.

Am I charged straight away, and do you keep my card?

Charged when the order is confirmed, not when it is dispatched. And no, we do not keep your card — we never have it to keep. Shop Pay stores details with Shopify, under your control, and a guest checkout stores nothing at all.

There are no subscriptions here. One order, one payment, nothing recurring.

Can I have an invoice with my company VAT number on it?

Yes. Tell us before the parcel ships and we will reissue the invoice with your company name, address and VAT number so the tax can be reclaimed. Ask afterwards and we will still do it, a day or two more slowly.

We cannot alter the amount, the date or the currency, and we cannot declare a lower value than you paid.

Will I be asked for customs duties on delivery?

Not in the United Kingdom or the European Union — those orders travel duties paid, and the checkout total is the whole of it. Elsewhere, import duties and taxes are set by the destination country and collected from the recipient on delivery.

The zone-by-zone detail is on the shipping page. If the pen is a gift, send it to yourself first.

Still uneasy?

Ask before you pay, not after.

If something about a charge does not add up, write to us with the order number and the last four digits of the card. A person reads it, usually the same day.

We would far rather answer a question about a payment than argue about one later — and if you are unsure whether a message really came from us, forward it and we will tell you.
