Refer a friend
Lend us your word, not your address book.
If somebody you know would keep one of these, tell them yourself. Their first order comes with [Friend reward], and once their thirty days to change their mind have passed, [Referral reward] comes to you. No lists to upload, no posting about us, no chasing anybody.
How it works
Three steps, then it is out of your hands.
The programme runs on a link that belongs to you. You send it to one person, they use it, and the rest happens without either of you having to remember anything.
-
01
Send your link
Your link arrives by email once you have an order behind you. Send it to somebody who would actually keep one — a message, not a broadcast.
One link, yours for as long as the programme runs
-
02
Your friend orders
They open the link, the discount is waiting at checkout, and the pen arrives boxed with the printer and the paper as everyone else's does.
[Friend reward] off their first order

03
The reward lands
Once their thirty days to change their mind have run out and the pen has stayed with them, your reward is emailed to you as a single-use code.
[Referral reward] to you, 30 days after their order is delivered
The conditions
The whole programme, in seven short clauses.
Referral schemes are usually written to be skimmed and then argued about later. This one is written to be read once. Seven clauses: who can refer, when the reward is actually earned, what it can be used with, what counts as abuse, how long the programme lasts, tax, and what happens to your friend's email address.
Where a clause is inconvenient for us, it still says so.

1Who can refer, and who counts as a friend
You can refer once you have an order with us that has been delivered and not returned. You need to be old enough to hold an account with us, and living somewhere we ship to.
A friend is a real person who has not ordered from us before, at their own address, paying with their own card. One reward per friend, however many links they are sent.
Shops, resellers and anyone buying for a business should use the wholesale page instead — the terms there are better for you than this is.
2When the reward is earned
Not at checkout. Not at dispatch. Your reward is earned thirty days after your friend's order is delivered, which is the moment their right to send it back for a refund runs out.
We wait on purpose. A reward paid on an order that later comes back would have to be taken off you again, and nobody enjoys that email.
So: if the order is cancelled, refunded, returned in whole, or never paid for, no reward is earned by either of you. A partial return leaves the reward in place as long as a pen is still with them.
The code is emailed to the address on your own order, usually within a few days of that thirtieth day. It is single use and expires twelve months after we send it.
3Using the reward, and other offers
One discount code per order. A referral code cannot be combined with another code, a sale price, a bundle or a returning-customer offer — the checkout will take the first one entered and refuse the second.
Rewards have no cash value, cannot be exchanged for money or refunded as money, and cannot be sold or transferred. They do not apply to gift cards, and they do not stretch across two orders if you spend less than the value.
Free delivery over $50 is not a discount code, so that still applies as normal.
4Fair use, self-referral and abuse
The programme exists so that one person can tell another person about something. Referring yourself is not that — a second email address, a relative's card, an order to your own flat under a different name — and none of it earns a reward.
Also not allowed: posting your link on coupon and voucher sites, bidding on our name in paid search, buying advertising that points at your link, sending it to people who did not ask, or using our photographs or logo to promote it. The press page sets out what may be used and how.
Where we believe a reward has been earned this way, we can withhold it, cancel a code, or close the account. We will tell you which and why, and you can put your side to [Email] before anything is final.
5How long the programme runs
Indefinitely, until it is not. We can change the reward amounts, the conditions, or close the programme altogether, at any time and without notice.
What we will not do is take back what you have already earned. A reward earned under one set of conditions is honoured under those conditions, and any code already sent to you stays valid until its expiry date, even if the programme has ended in the meantime.
Changes are dated at the top of this page. The version that applies to a referral is the one that was published on the day your friend ordered.
6Tax
For almost everyone this is a discount on a pen and there is nothing to declare. We do not deduct or report anything on your behalf.
If you are referring at a volume where it starts to look like income, that is between you and the tax authority in [Country], and it is worth asking someone qualified rather than us.
7Your friend's details
We never ask you for your friend's email address, and there is nothing here to upload a contact list into. You send the link yourself, through whatever you already use.
When they order, they are our customer on the ordinary terms, and their address goes on our mailing list only if they choose it themselves. We do not tell them what you were paid, and we do not tell you what they spent — you will only ever see that a referral has completed.
The full account is in the privacy policy.
Something not covered here
Write to [Email] and we will answer as a person rather than as a policy. If a reward has not arrived when it should have, say so — it is almost always our end.

Before you ask
The questions this always raises.
Still unsure? Write to us — a person answers, usually within a day.
Ask us anythingWhere do I find my link?
It is emailed to you once an order has been delivered. If you cannot find it, write to [Email] with the order number and we will send it again.
Why do I have to wait thirty days?
Because your friend has thirty days to send the pen back. Paying you before that would mean asking for it back if they did, and we would rather wait than write that email.
How many people can I refer?
As many as you genuinely know. One reward per friend, and the reward is for a person telling a person — not for posting the link on a voucher site.
Can I use my reward with a sale price or another code?
No — one code per order, and it will not sit on top of a sale price. Free delivery over $50 is not a code, so that still applies.
My friend ordered and nothing has arrived.
Tell us at [Email] with your friend's order number if you have it. Rewards that go missing are almost always our fault, and we will put it right rather than argue about which link was clicked.
Or say it yourself
Give someone the words you kept.
A referral is one way of passing it on. Handing somebody the pen with a sentence already rolled up inside it is the other, and the better one.
